Hate doing push-ups? Me too. 🐾

Hello Reader, I have a confession. I don’t particularly like push-ups. There. I said it. 😂 But I’ve discovered one way to make them a whole lot more fun: Don’t do them alone. Do them with your best friend. While I’m working on my push-ups, Freedom can work on hers. And before you start picturing your dog balancing on two paws and pumping out military-style push-ups beside you — don’t worry. A doggy push-up is much easier. In fact, if your dog already knows SIT and DOWN, you’ve already got most of what you need. Let’s do one together. 1. Start with your dog standing in front of you. Have a small treat ready if you’re still teaching the movements. In case you need to learn this take the treat and move it from in front of your dogs nose ( a few inches in front), up and over their head so they are now looking up at your hand (their behind should automatically follow the movement and go into a sit- be sure to reward with a good sit- hold onto that treat….. 2. Ask for SIT. Good dog! 3. From SIT, ask for DOWN. Now from that SIT, we’ll take that treat and move it down in front and to the ground until their front paws are extended in front of them and they are well lying on the ground. Reward if needed, try to reward with a good Down before using that treat as a reward. Don’t worry they’ll get that tasty treat! It’s coming……. 4. Ask for SIT again. Now just bring that treat up until they follow you back up to a sit- WALA! Doggy Push Up 1 DONE! Now you can repeat the sequence to get the desired reps or time of exercise you want to do completed…….FYI- NOW they get the treat! Make sure it’s a good one because they’ll be competing with you soon enough to see who does more pushups than the other and we want it to be fair training and all- RIGHT?!?!?!? And… DONE-LY DONE! 🐾 That’s one doggy push-up. SIT → DOWN → SIT Meanwhile, I’m over here lowering myself toward the floor, questioning every decision that brought me to this moment. 😂 And the worst part? Freedom’s push-up probably looks a hell of a lot better than mine ever will. But that’s okay. Because this isn’t about having the perfect push-up. It’s about moving. It’s about training. It’s about spending a few minutes doing something healthy with the dog who would probably follow us anywhere anyway. So, the next time you’re dreading your workout, invite your best friend to join you. You do your push-ups. Let your dog do theirs. One rep and one paw at a time. Until tomorrow have a happy and healthy tail wagging day, Pamela & Freedom Doggone Healthy Choices Now drop and give me 10! Sorry Army flashback there, LOL! |
