Guess what… boom, boom, boom season is coming!!

Hi, Reader!

Guess what?

Summer fun is wonderful…

…but for many dogs (and honestly, many people too!), boom, boom, boom season can be a little stressful.

Fireworks, celebrations, neighborhood noise, sudden surprises…

If your dog struggles with summer sounds, you are definitely not alone.

So today’s quick Doggone Healthy Choices Summer Tip is all about helping you and your best furry friend get through fireworks season a little more comfortably.

A few ideas that have helped me and my dogs over the years:

*Create a calmer environment

Close windows, close curtains or shades, run the AC, a fan, TV, music, white noise, radio — whatever helps soften outside sounds.

Stay close to your dog!!

Sometimes simple companionship matters.

Cuddles under the covers.

Quiet conversation.

Sitting together in a calmer room.

Some dogs simply feel safer knowing their person is nearby.

*Offer a “safe spot”

Crate, basement room, bathroom, cozy corner, blanket fort, favorite bed…

One of my dogs, Scout, sometimes chose the bathtub as his comfort zone!

Dogs can surprise us with where they feel safest.

Bathroom break strategy!!

Try to let your dog out before fireworks typically begin.

If you're unsure when noises may start, consider using a leash — even in a fenced backyard — and stay close to home.

Travel safely

If you're going out with your dog during fireworks season, think safety and containment.

Harnesses, crates, dog seat belts, secure setups — whatever works best for your dog.

Comfort tools

Some people find calming routines, safe spaces, gentle pressure wraps, calming music, or products like anxiety wraps / ThunderShirts are helpful for certain dogs.

Every dog is different.

And one gentle reminder:

Even when others may be celebrating loudly… we can still do our best to help our dogs feel secure, seen, and supported.

You know your dog best.

And sometimes our dogs teach us a little something about finding calm in a noisy world.

More coming soon as we get closer to the launch of Doggone Healthy Choices Digital Magazine!

(And quietly… if you'd still like the chance to be included in our very first issue with your best furry friend, I'd love to hear from you.)

With gratitude have a happy and healthy tail-wagging day,

Pamela and Freedom
