Be a Hero to Our Heroes 🐾Be a Hero to Our Heroes—Two-Legged and Four-Legged Hi friends, Freedom and I are getting ready for the Paws for Freedom 5K on Saturday, October 24, and I want to share a little more about why this race means so much to me. Yes, we’re putting in the miles. We’re practicing our training, building our teamwork, and taking time to rest. But what’s bringing us to that starting line goes far beyond exercise. We’re moving with a purpose—and you can be part of it. Standing beside those who stand up for us Our military members, veterans, law enforcement officers, and other first responders give so much to protect our freedoms, our safety, and our communities. That service can come at a price. Sometimes the injuries are visible. Sometimes the mental and emotional wounds are carried quietly, long after a deployment or a shift has ended. The people who have shown up for others deserve someone to show up for them, too. And sometimes, an important part of that support arrives on four paws. What Paws of War makes possiblePaws of War supports veterans, active-duty military members, and first responders while also helping animals in need. Its work includes rescuing animals, training service dogs, placing companion animals, and reuniting service members with animals they bonded with overseas. Through its service dog programs, Paws of War helps veterans and first responders build partnerships with dogs trained to support their individual needs. That partnership takes work. It takes professional guidance, hands-on training, consistency, and the everyday commitment of the person who will live and work with that dog. The relationship continues growing through practice and daily life together. Not every rescue dog becomes a service dog. Companion animals have a meaningful role, too—and every animal deserves a safe, loving home. For a rescued dog, this can mean safety, belonging, and a fresh start. For a veteran or first responder, it can mean support, greater independence, and new possibilities. That’s the heart of Paws of War’s phrase:“saving both ends of the leash.”Why I’m taking this personallyAs an Army veteran, a dog trainer, and someone who knows how much a dog can mean in a person’s life, this mission speaks directly to my heart. It brings together things I care deeply about: supporting those who serve, helping animals, and building a life with purpose. It’s also why I would love the opportunity to work with Paws of War someday. I believe in this mission, and I want to contribute my experience, creativity, and heart to it. Right now, one way I can contribute is by raising money and preparing for this 5K. I’m training Freedom myself as my service dog in training, and our work together is part of our everyday life. As we prepare for race day, we’re practicing focus, working together around distractions, and continuing to build our connection. Every walk and training session reminds me how much goes into a partnership like this—and why support for these programs matters. You can be a hero to our heroes You don’t have to run a 5K to make a difference. By donating to my Paws of War fundraiser, you can help support the people and animals at the heart of this mission. You can help a rescued animal move toward a brighter future. You can help make support available to someone who has spent their life serving others. You can become part of a story that continues long after we cross the finish line.
Give what fits your budget. If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing this post or fundraiser is another meaningful way to help. I believe everyone has a purpose—and each of us has the chance to be someone’s hero. Sometimes that means serving our country. Sometimes it means helping a dog find a home. Sometimes it means making a donation or sharing a message that reaches exactly the right person. Let’s show up for our heroes—two-legged and four-legged.With gratitude, Until tomorrow have a happy and healthy tail wagging day,Pam & Freedom 🐾Doggone Healthy ChoicesBuilding a healthier, happier life alongside your dog—one foot, one paw at a time.Like what you see?
